OUR STORY
You Have A Visitor LLC began with a conversation many families quietly carry but rarely say out loud.
I’m Amanda, and this all started with my sister, Kristin.
Kristin navigates this world with Smith-Magenis Syndrome, a rare intellectual and developmental disorder that carries with it recognizable physical, behavioral, and developmental features1. Travel has always been meaningful to us, but it has also always required more planning, more coordination, and more emotional energy than most people realize. What should feel exciting often becomes exhausting, with hours of research, phone calls, and uncertainty, all to answer one question:
Will this actually work when we get there?
In 2019, my parents and I had a hard but honest conversation about the future. It was the future when they may no longer be here, and I would be Kristin’s primary caregiver. We talked about logistics. Support. Safety. And then we talked about something deeper:
How do we make sure Kristin’s world doesn’t get smaller while ensuring my life (and my brother’s) continues to unfold the way we’d like?
How do we ensure Kristin can travel, experience adventure, visit people she loves, and feel connected, even when circumstances change? This is how You Have A Visitor LLC was born, out of both grief and love.
Why This Work Matters
Like many families, we’ve experienced hotel rooms that weren’t accessible as described, staff who weren’t prepared, and trips that felt more stressful than restorative. Over time, I realized the biggest issue wasn’t just inconvenience, but trust.
When families can’t trust the information they’re given, planning becomes risky. When planning feels risky, people stay home. And when people stay home, opportunities for connection and adventure disappear.
At the root is a deep lack of trust in the information and resources available and whether the trip will be worth the stress, so sometimes families will forgo travel before the trip even begins. Opportunities for connection, adventures, and lasting memories are lost.
Families and caregivers already carry so much. Travel shouldn’t feel like another full-time job or a gamble that isn’t worth taking. You Have A Visitor LLC exists to change that.
Why We Exist
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s travel survey data estimates that 18.6 million Americans self-report a condition that makes it difficult to travel outside the home2.
We want to flip the story: disability isn’t the problem; systems are. Too often, travelers and families are forced to carry the burden of planning, verifying, and problem-solving because the world isn’t ready for them. You Have A Visitor LLC exists to change that. We bring lived experience and high-touch planning that anticipates what others miss, so travelers and families can exhale and feel supported, confident, and excited for adventure!

How We Approach This Work
We know how much trust it takes to let someone help plan a trip, especially when disability adds extra layers that most people don’t think about. Our first step is always to listen. We want to understand you: what makes travel feel safe, what feels stressful, what kind of support helps, and what would make the experience actually enjoyable.
From there, we make a plan that’s realistic and respectful. We help you think through the details that can make or break a trip so fewer things are left to chance, and you feel more confident as the day gets closer.
Most of all, we do this with you. You’re the expert in your life. We’re here to reduce the burden, take the pressure off your shoulders, and help you travel with more ease.
This work is shaped by lived experience, deep listening, and respect for what’s at stake when a family decides to travel. It’s about dignity, access, connection, and peace of mind.
What Makes Us Different
What makes You have a Visitor LLC unique is our full-circle approach. We don’t treat disability as a “special case.” We treat it as real life and plan accordingly. Our work is grounded in lived experience and deep respect for what it takes to travel when the world isn’t (yet) designed with you in mind.
Unlike booking sites or general travel agents, we do more than arrange travel. We anticipate the details others miss, advocate for what you need, and build plans that protect your comfort and dignity, so you can focus on the excitement of the trip, not the stress of the logistics.
We’re here to make travel feel possible and more empowering for travelers with disabilities, and for the families and loved ones who support them.
Where we are Going
Right now, You Have A Visitor LLC focuses on hands-on travel planning and accessibility verification. building trust, and learning from every trip.
Over time, the goal is to make reliable, verified accessibility information easier to find, so more people can travel with confidence whether they want full support or tools to plan on their own.
At the heart of our work is restoring trust, because this community needs the assurance that they have an advocate with lived experience in their corner and the chance to experience adventure and create lasting memories.
